NUJ Urges Comprehensive Probe into Zamfara VON Reporter’s Tragic Demise

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council, is urging state security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Hamisu Danjibga, a Union member and correspondent for the Voice of Nigeria (VON).

The late veteran journalist was reported missing from his residence in the state capital, Gusau, prompting concerns from his family.

Suspected to have been kidnapped, his body was later discovered in a drainage pit by students of an Islamiyya school after an unpleasant smell was detected from the backyard of his residence three days later.

Expressing deep regret over Danjibga’s death, the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists mourned the loss and conveyed condolences to his family, the Voice of Nigeria, and the people of Zamfara state.

The Council emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into the matter, calling on security agencies to bring the culprits responsible for this heinous act to justice.

Danjibga’s untimely demise marks a grim milestone as the first member of the journalistic profession to fall victim to the rampant banditry and kidnapping for ransom plaguing the already precarious state.

Many suspect that the veteran journalist’s fearless reporting on extrajudicial and political killings in the state made him a target for those uncomfortable with his honest news coverage over the years.
